To coordinate, supervise, and provide leadership in all aspects of Matagorda County Educational Services Member Districts’ Special Education Programs. To achieve and maintain standards of excellence in teaching in all special education programs so that each student may achieve to his fullest potential.

 

A.     Minimum Certification/Education:

 

1.   Master’s degree from an accredited college or university

2.      Texas Teacher Certification or equivalent certification

3.      Supervision or Administration Certification preferred

4.      Instructional Leadership training and teacher appraisal training preferred

5.      Minimum of three years teaching experience (with special education) or equivalent experience working in the field of special education

 

B.     Special Knowledge/Skills:

 

1.   Effective skills in communication and public relations

2.      Ability to diagnose deficiencies and suggest remediation techniques or strategies

3.      Knowledge of effective teaching techniques and overall program effectiveness.

4.      Ability to identify programmatic needs and develop alternatives for addressing those needs.

5.      Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to Special Education.
