JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: SPEECH PATHOLOGIST
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in speech pathology;
State License for speech/language pathologist;
Certificate of Clinical Competency-SLP-Preferred;
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate
JOB GOAL:
To help reduce or eliminate speech/language disorders that interfere with the individual student's ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
001 serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement;
002 provide a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech impaired students;
003 assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language disorders;
004 provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech and language disorders;
005 assist in appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual student needs and to correct existing speech or language impairments;
006 collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities;
007 provide information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate;
008 provide in-service education and serve as consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement as needed;
009 keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services;
010 maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services;
011 provide Medicaid supervision to speech pathologists not holding ASHA certification, one time per nine weeks, to ensure appropriate provision of services;
012 assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 187 Days (10 months)
